Fundación Montecito
Conservation of Lake Tota
Fundación Montecito is a registered non-profit organization founded in Sogamoso, Boyacá by Felipe Andrés Velasco and Juanita Arango. Our mission is to generate actions and reflections for the environment, specifically at Lake Tota in Colombia, in order to create an increasingly sustainable relationship between humans and nature.
Fundación Montecito is dedicated to the advancement of environmental conditions in two distinct Andean regions of Colombia: the province of Sugamuxi, encompassing 13 towns in Boyacá, and the municipality of Gámbita, located in Santander. Our primary objective is to enhance water governance through the creation and management of nature reserves, emphasizing a philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature in our local territories and communities.
Our expertise in water governance began in 2010 with Lake Tota, the largest lake in Colombia, as our central focus. Fundación Montecito has undertaken various projects aimed at promoting environmental awareness by leading by example. We believe that environmental education and culture are crucial factors in improving our relationship with nature and adopting responsible practices, ultimately leading to a society that can make conscious decisions without endangering our environment and biodiversity. We remain steadfast in our commitment to this mission and are continually motivated to pursue new projects and initiatives in the future.
