  • Sumercé is an expression used by the inhabitants of Boyacá to show kindness and respect. It originated from the pronoun su merced, a formal and polite way to address “your grace” in Spanish. Over time, it evolved into sumercé (soo-mahr-say). This word is almost exclusively used here in Boyacá and is used to show admiration and warmth to address others.

  • We purchase our products directly from our artisan partners at a price determined by them. Sumercé provides advance funds for artisans that require the tools and materials to get started with their craft. And all our products are paid in full upon completion - regardless if they will sell in the future.

  • We value fostering genuine relationships with our artisan partners. Our constant connection with them has allowed us to be there every step of the process - from concept to completion.

  • Sumercé Artisans focuses on environmentally consciousness and providing economic opportunities for artisans in Sugamuxi. We operate in small batch productions with the proceeds going back into their community.

  • Since we directly pay the prices from our artisans, we use that initial price as the baseline for the overall cost. All of our revenue is reinvested into the organization - everything from future materials for artisans to specific programs listed here.

  • Yes, we are an online store with a few brick + mortar store locations throughout the United States carrying our products.
