Mauricio Pérez
Mauricio has explored performance art, beginning with his participation in the Cali International Performance Festival in Colombia. There, he presented a puppet show inspired by the psychomagic of Alejandro Jodorowsky. Internationally, Mauricio has showcased his artistry and conducted workshops in Spain, Ecuador, the Netherlands, Malta, and the United States, where he has resided for the past five years in Philadelphia.
Since 2019, Mauricio has collaborated with La Puerta Abierta, an organization dedicated to providing therapeutic support to families and undocumented youth who have migrated to the country. His dedication to empowering young migrants through art therapy has resulted in exhibitions of his work at esteemed galleries such as Fundación Semillas and Da Vinci Art Alliance in Philadelphia.
For more than 22 years, Mauricio Pérez has dedicated himself to creating mesmerizing papier mâché sculptures, drawing inspiration from magical realism and traditional Latin American aesthetics.
Mauricio, born in Sogamoso, Boyaca, has harbored a deep fascination with craftsmanship since childhood. He pursued his passion for the arts by graduating from the National University of Colombia in Bogotá. His commitment to community engagement led him to work for a decade with the public institution Artesanías de Colombia, where he contributed to the "Families in Action" program. Through this initiative, Mauricio conducted papier mâché workshops for communities displaced by violence stemming from the armed conflict.
