CrearCoop
The artisans of Guacamayas, Boyacá, led by Omaira Manrique, formed a cooperative dedicated to improving their quality of life through their craft. Using a traditional “rolling” technique inherited from the Laches indigenous people, Crearcoop creates exquisite baskets and other items from a natural fiber called fique. Primarily mothers who are heads of households, the women craft exquisite products like baskets, trays, plates, and vases.
Each piece showcases geometric designs and vibrant colors, embodying the rich cultural heritage of Guacamayas. Growing up in a town with limited economic opportunities, Omaira inherited a rich legacy of craftsmanship from her family. Once just a handful of families, Omaira and her cooperative haven ow flourished into an artisan community of over 400 members. At the heart of their mission is a dedication to community collaboration and empowerment. With over three decades of experience, they have garnered recognition around the country, contributing to both development and cultural preservation of Guacamayas.
